2.00 – 3.00PM

In this talk, Jo will examine how fiction helps us understand and explore our humanity, develop empathy and uncover the truth about ourselves. Story seems to be the most effective way to reflect on our human condition, irrespective of race, politics and gender. As Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart says, “Literature, whether handed down by word of mouth or in print, gives us a second handle on reality.”

Jo Browning Wroe is an award – winning writer of educational books. The novel she is currently working on was shortlisted for last year’s Bridport Prize. She has an MA in Creative Writing from UEA and has written for the New Statesman and the Church Times. She is Creative Writing Supervisor at Lucy Cavendish College, and teaches at Hills Road on their Adult Education Programme.
